Florida Health Insurance

Looking for health insurance in Florida? Bernard Health Group Inc. helps individuals, families and self-employed clients compare health insurance options based on coverage, network, prescription needs, deductibles, premiums and eligibility.

No obligation. No cost to you. We never sell your information.

Individual Health Insurance

When you buy coverage for yourself, the plan has to fit one set of doctors, one prescription list and one budget. We compare plans on the things that decide what you actually pay — whether your providers are in network, whether your medications are on the formulary, and how the deductible and out-of-pocket maximum work together.

A low premium attached to a network that excludes your specialist is not the cheaper plan. We put the real numbers side by side so you can see the cost of a normal year, not just the monthly bill.

Family Health Insurance

A family plan has to work for everyone on it at once — the child who needs a pediatrician, the spouse with a maintenance prescription, and the parent who never sees a doctor until they do. We check how a household deductible, a specialist referral and an unexpected emergency room visit land on the bill before you enroll.

If your children may be eligible for Florida KidCare, we will tell you so. It is often the better answer for a family, and it is not something we sell.

ACA Marketplace Insurance

Marketplace plans are major medical coverage that must include essential health benefits — preventive care, prescriptions, maternity and newborn care, mental health and hospital coverage. You cannot be turned down or charged more because of a pre-existing condition.

Open Enrollment happens once a year. Outside of it, a qualifying life event — losing coverage, moving, getting married, having a baby — opens a Special Enrollment Period. We help you enroll and check what you may be eligible for in the same conversation.

Health Insurance for Self-Employed Individuals

No employer plan means no HR department, no group rate, and nobody to answer the question of what you are actually supposed to buy. Freelancers, 1099 contractors and small business owners are the clients we work with most.

Eligibility for financial help is based on the household income you expect for the coverage year, not only what you earned last year. We walk through that estimate with you so the figure you file is realistic.

Health Insurance After Losing Employer Coverage

Losing a job, aging off a parent's plan, or losing Medicaid opens a Special Enrollment Period — generally 60 days from the date your coverage ends. That window is real and it closes, and missing it can leave a household waiting until the next Open Enrollment.

If you have been offered COBRA, we price it honestly next to a Marketplace plan instead of assuming COBRA is your only option. Sometimes it is the right call. Often it is not.

How Health Insurance Subsidies Work

Premium tax credits are determined by household income, household size, where you live, and other eligibility requirements set by the Marketplace and the IRS. Many Marketplace applicants may qualify for help, but the amount is specific to your situation — there is no blanket answer.

Because the credit is calculated from the income estimate you file, an inaccurate figure is what creates a surprise at tax time. We go through the estimate with you carefully, and you can review the official rules directly at HealthCare.gov.

How to Compare Health Plans

Two plans with the same premium can cost you very different amounts over a year. These are the pieces we compare before recommending anything:

  • Network — whether your doctors and hospitals are in it
  • Prescriptions — whether each medication is covered, and at what tier
  • Deductible — what you pay before the plan starts paying
  • Out-of-pocket maximum — your worst-case year
  • Copays and coinsurance — the cost of a routine visit
  • Plan type — HMO, PPO or EPO, and how referrals work
  • Metal tier — Bronze, Silver or Gold, and what that changes
